About the program
Overview
Mission statement
The mission of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is to make lives better by educating and preparing compassionate, competent, and adaptable physician assistants (PAs) who provide high-quality, patient-centered care across a broad range of clinical settings. Through excellence in education, clinical training, service, scholarship, and research, the program seeks to improve health outcomes, advance evidence-based practice, and serve the health care needs of San Antonio, South Texas, and beyond.
Program features
Our accredited Master of Physician Assistant Studies program provides classroom, laboratory, simulations, cadaver anatomy lab, and clinical rotations that prepare graduates for careers as physician assistants.
Clinical rotations
The 16‑month clinical phase includes 15 rotations: nine required core specialties (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Primary Care, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Inpatient Care, Women’s Health, General Surgery, Behavioral Medicine), five student‑chosen electives, and one supervised clinical research experience; each rotation is full‑time (40+ hours/week) and typically spans about a month.
